About this listen
The history of India's struggle for freedom is usually told from the perspective of the non-violent movement. Yet, the story of armed resistance to colonial occupation is just as important. Names such as Vinayak Savarkar, Aurobindo Ghosh, Rashbehari Bose, Bagha Jatin, Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and Subhas Chandra Bose are still widely remembered. Their story is almost always presented as acts of individual heroism and not as part of a wider movement that had any overarching strategy or significant impact on the overall struggle for Independence.
In reality, the revolutionaries were part of a large network that sustained armed resistance against the British Empire for half a century. They not only created a wide network inside India but also established nodes in Britain, France, Thailand, Germany, Persia, Russia, Italy, Ireland, the United States, Japan and Singapore. At various points, they received official support and recognition from the governments of some of these countries. Even the internal dynamics of the Indian National Congress of the time cannot be understood without the revolutionaries, who enjoyed widespread support within the organization. This was no small-scale movement of naive individual heroism but one that involved a large number of extraordinary young men and women who were connected in multiple ways to each other and to the evolving events of their times.
Revolutionaries tells their story, one that is replete with swashbuckling adventure, intrigue, espionage, incredible bravery, diabolical treachery and shockingly unpredictable twists of fate.

A well researched book
At first the narration of this book sounds slow but after some time of listening I enjoyed the narration .
The book covers the stories of various revolutionaries, such as Sri Aurobindo, Veer Savarkar, Rashbehari Bose, Bagha Jatin, Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose, and many others. The author shows how these revolutionaries were not isolated individuals, but part of a large network that spanned across India and the world. He also reveals how they influenced the politics and society of their times, and how they forced the British to leave India.
The book is well-researched and well-written, with a lot of anecdotes and details that make the narrative lively and interesting. The author also provides a balanced view of the revolutionaries, acknowledging their achievements as well as their flaws. He does not shy away from discussing the controversies and debates that surround them, such as their use of violence, their ideological differences, and their relations with the mainstream nationalist movement.

A Must Read/Listen
The book describes how the various incidents that took place alongside the mainstream INC events were not incoherent and random. This side of revolutionaries never got their due mostly because their involvement and significance has been underplayed. The author traces the linkages of various incidents and multiple figures in proper chronological order. I pray that some web series is churned out of this book to bring these stories properly in the mainstream.

True to its title, it is a chronicle of the other side
A very intriguing and fascinating experience, came to know of a lot of incidents and back stories that I was not aware of. Well written and narrated.
Some of the Bengali words and nouns are mispronounced, would be better if corrected.

Masterpiece
Such a beautiful, beautiful piece of work - bought tears in my eyes at various junctures . Every story , every life is so incredibly portrayed and narratived , it begs to question - Why I didn’t I know about these lives before . Because these lives shouldn’t just be remembered but revered with the highest amount of respect and honour

What a great book!
We need to make these stories a part of mainstream Indian history. When we study history in schools, none of the revolutionaries are given in-depth introductions. The motivations for their actions hardly ever mentioned. Their failures highlighted, their successes barely explained.
This is how we should’ve known them. As multi-faceted, talented, driven extremely young men and women who gave up more than just their lives for the cause of India’s independence.
A fascinating, exhilarating audiobook!!

Fascinating stories about men and women who India has forgotten
This is a must read if you are interested in modern Indian history. We are exposed to one narrative and the alternate one has been systematically removed. This book aims to correct it.
